Veterans Law

Walter Mack, a Vietnam Veteran, has committed to developing a Veterans' Affairs practice for Doar Rieck Kaley & Mack. Although he is new to this area, Mr. Mack has received appropriate training, which is ongoing, and would team with available experienced Veterans Affairs organizations and practitioners to assist Veterans on a pro bono basis or otherwise in areas ranging from education and health care to housing and retirement, including, but not limited to, litigation of the following:

  • Service Connected Compensation – a program that orients veterans benefits based on disabilities incurred or aggravated in military service, without regard to financial need
  • Special Monthly Compensation – a program, in addition to regular Disability Compensation, for specific categories of loss and to subsidize "Aid and Attendance"
  • Clear and Unmistakable Error (CUE) claims – a method of retrieving retroactive monies from an un-appealed, final decision by VA Regional Offices (VARO) or the Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA)

Complexities of the laws affecting veterans can be discouraging, especially without assistance from a licensed and dedicated specialist. The case law often presents difficulty to those unfamiliar with legal issues. According to the National Organization of Veterans' Associates (NOVA), less than half of eight million eligible veterans have received benefits from the VA. As a veteran, Mr. Mack is willing to assist in overcoming the difficulties that veterans may face both in service and upon return. If you have questions regarding the specifics of your situation, please feel free to contact us at 212-619-3730.
